Ahhhh celebs - they swan around, oozing money and glamour and often pair up with other celebs just to make sure there is double the drama.

But the world of showbiz is a fickle one and many celebrities find themselves in the middle of more than one messy break up.

Often in these much publicised divorce battles, it's not just children that are fought over - it’s their fur babies that cause a real bone of contention.

We take a look at some of the celebs who fought for canine custody when they

realise their love was not furever:

Liam Payne and Maya Henry

Eagle-eyed fans knew something was up when singer Liam Payne admitted he was pining for a new dog on social media.

It came as a surprise to his fans given that the former One Direction singer had gifted his fiancée Maya an adorable puppy at Christmas.

Fans quickly realised that Liam was longing for a new dog because he was no longer living with Winston - the dog he and Maya once shared together - and therefore clearly was no longer living with Maya.

Kirsten Stewart and Robert Pattinson

After the two ‘Twilight’ actors broke up, their adopted pet dog Bear was the subject of much ruff talking.

Rob dug his heels in and managed to keep the pooch, despite Kristen doing all she could to sink her claws in.

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline

After pop princess Britney’s very public breakdown in 2007, where she shaved her head and was taken away in an ambulance, she lost custody of her two children and also her beloved dogs.

Despite fighting hard for custody, she lost the dogs, with even animal charity PETA campaigning against the troubled star.

Cheryl and Ashley Cole

When this couple divorced in 2010, they reportedly agreed to split their fortune evenly. However, deciding who kept the couple’s two chihuahuas was no walk in the park.

Cheryl wanted to keep Buster and Coco, having previously said that: ‘There’s nothing like the comfort of your animals… They are definitely more mine than Ashley’s but he does love them really."

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp.

This celebrity divorce was pretty messy to say the least.

But what was worked out early, and allegedly fairly amicably, between the two stars was who got custody of Pistol and Boo, the dogs the couple adopted during their brief and turbulent marriage.

Amber and Johnny came under fire after they brought the pooches into Australia without declaring them at customs or obtaining the proper paperwork for them.

Though Amber pleaded guilty to providing a false immigration document to immigration officials, the pair got off lightly.

As punishment, Amber and Johnny were asked to make a public service announcement where Amber apologized for her conduct and praised Australia’s biosecurity laws and Johnny encouraged others to declare everything when they come into Australia.

Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas.

When this couple decided to end their almost twenty year marriage, they had three dogs.

Rumour had it that their $50 million divorce case was pretty ruff in large part over custody of these pups, two of which came from rescue centres.

Actress Melanie made it clear she wanted to keep them and many believed she was the better pup parent. And it appeared Antonio relented.
