Where can I stay with my dog in the New Forest?

With lush fields, woodland, and plenty of wildlife, the New Forest is arguably one of the best locations for a staycation if you want to bring your four-legged friend.

Finding a hotel, campsite, cottage, or place to stay, however, can be a bit of a problem, as not everywhere will welcome your dog with open arms.

Here's a run-down of the best places to stay in the area if you're dog walking in the New Forest, and bringing your pup along with you on holiday...

Dog friendly hotels in the New Forest

The Master Builders House Hotel

The Master Builders House Hotel was named 'Dog Friendly Hotel of the Year' in 2021, so you know it's a welcome place to take your dog. The hotel will provide a dog bed, bowls and even meals like sausage and mash or beef stew for a five-star experience for your pet.

New Park Manor Hotel

The New Park Manor Hotel has a strict “pooches welcome” policy, and can provide anything your pet needs, for a £15 charge per dog, per night. The hotel said: “It would be tantamount to cruelty to leave your dog at the kennels when it could be scampering around the amazing grounds and exploring the fabulous network of paths around the New Forest.”

Burley Manor

Dogs can stay in certain rooms of Burley Manor, and will be treated to their own dog mat, a welcome bag of healthy snacks and treats, and their own bowls to eat and drink from.

Dog friendly B&Bs in the New Forest

Seraya New Forest

Seraya is a family-run, dog-friendly B&B in the heart of New Forest National Park. It says on the website: “We are just a gentle stroll from open moors and ancient woodland,” meaning this could be an ideal spot for your dog to run around and explore.

Bridge House Bed & Breakfast

This BnB has one dog-friendly rooms, is close to the forest, and is located in two acres of grounds, offering a lot of space for relaxing dog walks.

Little Granton

Just on the edge of New Forest National Park, Little Granton could be a B&B to visit if you're not comfortable being in the middle of nowhere. Dogs are allowed with “sensible owners”, and you will have to bring your own bed for your pet.

Dog friendly campsites in the New Forest

Setthorns Campsite

Setthorns Campsite welcomes dogs, but due to an abundance of local wildlife, owners are advised to keep their dogs on a lead at all times while camping.

Back of Beyond Touring Park

“Well-behaved” dogs are allowed at Back of Beyond campsite, and with 18 acres of private woodland are encouraged to “wander, dash around, and explore off the lead”. If they get muddy from their walk, the campsite also has a dog wash station where you can give them a hot shower before letting them into your accommodation.

Long Meadow Campsite

Long Meadow allows two dogs per pitch, but they need to be kept on a lead at all times due to local wildlife.

Dog friendly cottages in the New Forest

Pet-friendly home with private garden

This Airbnb is specifically advertised as pet-friendly, and has a fenced-off private garden so you can let your dog frolic in the garden with no fear that it'll wander off. You'll have the entire home to yourself, and the local pub is a five-minute walk down the road.

Quaint cottage in the New Forest

This cute and cosy cottage is the epitome of rural beauty, and is advertised as pet-friendly. With a working tractor farm next door, and “miles of walking and cycling”, this could be a great Airbnb to unwind from city life in.

Barn on the Green

Dogs are welcome in this fully-converted barn, which has a small fenced area for them to fun around in at the front of the barn. As a bonus for wintry stays, the barn also has a log-burner, and hosts will provide logs and kindling for a small fee.
