Tom Daley has been in the limelight after his recent success at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, but it isn’t just the diver’s talent in the water that has us fascinated – his knitting skills have been getting attention too. And it turns out he has been knitting dog jumpers!
Daley finally won an Olympic gold medal as he took part in his fourth Games. He excelled in the men’s synchronised 10m diving event alongside his diving partner Matty Lee.
While Matty has returned home after finishing his events, Tom still has three to go. He will be taking to the diving board for the men’s 10m platform prelims on Friday, August 6, and the semi-final and final of that event will take place on Saturday, August 7, and Sunday, August 8, respectively.
Tom was seen at the women’s 3m springboard final on Sunday morning – which did not feature any members of TeamGB. When his eyes were not on the pool, he was concentrating on his knitting as he sat in the stands. Commentators at the event tried to figure out what Tom was knitting.

He later took to his second Instagram account, which is solely dedicated to his love for knitting and crochet, to explain that he was making a jumper for a dog. He also made a post about the ones he made previously.
“I made my friends some doggy jumpers!” he wrote. “It is the cutest little pattern to follow by @knittingland. How cute do they all look?! I was making another one at the pool yesterday lol.”
We love that he shares his knitting projects openly. In a video on his knitting page he said: “The one thing that has kept me sane throughout this whole process is my love for knitting and crochet and all things stitching so I want to say thank you to all of my followers on here for actually following along but not only that, this morning I made a little cosy for my medal to stop it getting scratched.”

While laughing to himself, Tom shows the knitted medal case to the camera. It’s white with the Union Jack on one side and the Japanese flag on the other. What a great idea!
Tom’s next knitting project looks like it’s a TeamGB cardigan. We’re excited to see the final result.
