As the rugby boys wait with bated breath until the official announcement of the British and Irish Lions squad for their summer tour, we’ve compiled a list of our own for TeamDogs.
We’ve scoured social media to see which rugby players have the love of a four-legged friend when they’re not scoring tries and chasing balls.
Though they might be hard men on the pitch, our research has shown that when it comes to their furry dogs, the rugby lads from all four nations are absolutely softies.
1. Wyn Jones (Wales)
Prop Wyn and his fiancée Jeian Lewis live on a farm and that can only mean one thing – they are used to having doggy company. Check out this throwback pic to their adorable sheepdog puppy. Cuteness overload!
2. Rory Sutherland (Scotland)
The Scottish prop welcomed Reggie, a beautiful French bulldog puppy into his family alongside his wife and their boys Mason and Hamish back in February and it’s hard not to look at that face without saying, ‘Aw.’
3. Tadhg Beirne (Ireland)
The Irish lock also has a gorgeous French Bulldog called Otis, pictured here with his girlfriend Hannah Fuller. The Irishman write on his Inst account that wherever they are, Otis is never far away.
4. CJ Stander (Ireland)
When the Irish back row is at home, he loves nothing more than spending time with his wife Jean-Marie and daughter Everli and their two beautiful King Charles Cavaliers Abbie and George, who even helped them announce the birth of their much-wanted daughter after a long fertility battle.
5. Tom Curry (England)
The English flanker introduced his social media following to little Toby the Dachshund back in September 2020. Check out the adorable video on his social media feeds and just look at him out for a walk in a yellow raincoat. So lush!
6. Jamie George (England)
The England hooker brought his handsome Hungarian Vizsla pup, Otto, home last Autumn. It’s fair to say they’ve been inseparable ever since.
7. Henry Slade (England)
The outside-centre recent celebrated his best mate Frankie’s sixth birthday and his social media feeds have several adorable pics of his fluffy cockapoo. He is totally amazing.
8. Owen Farrell (England)
The England captain has a Hungarian Vizsla and recently met up with Martin Johnson and David Flatman for a Land Rover-sponsored dog walk.
9. Conor Murray (Ireland)
The Ireland ace was pestered into buying a lockdown pup by his girlfriend Joanna Cooper and the Munster star and his model girlfriend now have Kevin the Cavapoo! He’s already made himself at home and is very much one of the family.
10. Gareth Davies (Wales)
Scrum-half Gareth loves his British Bulldog Pete and little Chihauhau Winnie so much they even took part at his clifftop proposal to girlfriend Katy Griffiths at St Brides Bay in Pembrokeshire.
11. Rob Henshaw (Ireland)
The Irish centre enjoys time off the pitch in company of his terrier Buster and gorgeous Luna, a black Labrador. He showed her off on Insta after getting her vaccines and she is stunning.
12. Garry Ringrose (Ireland)
How could you not adore these two? Meet Pip, a sausage dog and Seve, an Old English Sheepdog, who clearly have the outside centre’s heart.
13. Jonathan Davies (Wales)
Huxie the cockapoo shares the home of the 2017 player of the series and his wife Louise and there is no denying he is truly delightful.
14. Louis Rees-Zammit (Wales)
He was the star of the recent Six nations and it’s fair to say he gets just as much adoration at home as he does on the field, thanks to his pet dog. Here she is all dressed up for Christmas and enjoying a hug from the 19-year-old starlet.
15. Duhan van der Merwe (Scotland)
Scotland’s newest weapon on the wing, he also loves his French Bulldog. And we can see why? What a cutie!
16. Stuart Hogg (Scotland)
The Scotland captain is dad to two fluffy Springapoos who are very much part of Team Hoggy, alongside his wife Gillian and children Archie, Olivia and George.
17. Jonny Gray (Scotland)
The Scotland lock gave a homeless dog from Dogs Trust Glasgow its forever home. The team captain of the Glasgow Warriors fell in love with six-month-old Bulldog Astra after learning she had become a resident of Dogs Trust when a change in her previous owner’s circumstances meant they could no longer look after her.
18. Cian Healy (Ireland)
He’s proud dad to German Shepherd Hank and also a little pug called Ted, who, judging by this pic, clearly likes to hang out in a box, rather than a comfy bed. Any why not?
19. George North (Wales)
George was a dead cert for selection until injury ruled him out but we couldn’t compile this list without a mention of George and wife Becky’s adorable sausage dogs Lola and Darcy. They are the perfect pair!
