One of the best things about Ricky Gervais’ comedy-drama After Life was the dog, of course.

And now, the comedian has confirmed some good news about everyone’s favourite four-legged character.

On Twitter, Ricky revealed that Brandy, the gorgeous German Shepherd played by acting dog Anti, ‘does not die’ in the third season of the British TV series.

The Netflix show sees Tony, a local journalist, struggle with the death of his wife, Lisa – but it’s his beloved dog looking hungrily at her dinner bowl that stops him taking his own life.

Over the weekend, Ricky shared a photo of him and Anti, and said: “One of the main themes of After Life is that a dog can save your life. This is ramped up in season 3 and she becomes as important as any other character.”

The 60-year-old comedian has revealed that Brandy will outlive the series, which is something he’s mentioned a number of times online.

On August 11, he tweeted: “Thanks for making #AfterLife the most watched British comedy in the world. Season 3 is the best yet. Also, the dog does not die. Good Girl!”

The show has been seen by 80 million people, winning the title of most watched British comedy in the world three years in a row.

The dog, whose full name is Antilly the Wonder Hound, is a professional stunt dog who has appeared on Doc Martin, and helped bring the robot dogs of Kingsman: The Golden Circle to life.

She’s also appeared on Paul O’Grady’s For The Love of Dogs, and performed live on Britain’s Got More Talent.

But when she’s not on set for shows like Father Brown and Liar, or, of course, comforting Tony in After Life, she lives at home in Buckingham with fellow stunt dog ‘Wylie Smiley Boggle Chops’ and two rescue cats.

Filming for season three of After Life wrapped up in June, after 35 days on set.

While an official release date is yet to be determined, there’s been speculation it could hit the popular streaming site as early as December 2021, or in the first few months of 2022.
