This cute pug couple just showed their human pals the meaning of ‘love at first sight’.

When doting Percy and fellow pug Mabel initially laid eyes on each other on a walk in the park two years ago, they both knew they had met The One.

They had soon fallen ‘madly in love’ and spent hours each week lovingly playing together, while ‘only having eyes for each other’.

Now their owners have walked them down the aisle at their own wedding, celebrated together with 80 human guests and 30 pugs.

Percy’s owner Danii Clarke bawled her eyes out after ‘giving away’ her pet last Sunday, who was smartly dressed in a tuxedo harness.

The 24-year-old got engaged herself recently but said she spent the last year organising the pug wedding with Mabel’s owner Julie Goodall, 59.

The impassioned pugs, who are both aged two, arrived at the wedding bash in The Office in Brighouse in a convertible BMW accompanied by best man Arthur the pug and bridesmaid Coco, also a pug.

Around 80 human guests and 30 pugs attended the ‘stunning event’ which a celebrant even officiated.

Party-goers were treated to glasses of fizzy ‘pawsecco’, and a dog-friendly cake was served to the giddy guests.

Danii, from Bradford, West Yorkshire, said it was one of the proudest days of her life and felt like she was giving away her child in marriage.

She said: “I’m just so excited for them. We’ve been waiting for this day for so long, and I’m so proud.

“I never expected at my age to be giving away my ‘child’ in marriage, but as I took Percy down the aisle, I just felt so emotional.

“My dog is getting married before me. It was just such a beautiful day, and it’s been one of the proudest days of my life.”

Danii, who works as a teaching assistant, said that Percy ‘only has eyes for Mabel’ even when they go on their walks with up to 30 pugs.

She said: “Their love is the real deal. You think dogs would try it on with any dog, but he only tries it with Mabel. Whenever we go on our pug walks which are attended by up to 30 dogs, he will only have eyes for Mabel.

“It’s honestly incredible, they just have such a strong connection. He always tilts his head whenever I mention Mabel.”

Danii said her partner of five years, Tom Grimshaw, 25, thought she was mad after she devoted a year to organising the special day.

She said: “Tom thinks I’m crazy and mental, but he loves me and has to put up with it. Especially after the year we’ve had with lockdown, it’s such a wonderful thing to happen.

“Tom and I are engaged, so I should be planning my own wedding, but I’ve been planning my pug’s instead. There might be pressure on him as I don’t know how he’ll top it.”

Mabel’s owner Julie said that many other pugs had had their eye on her pooch, but her enamoured dog only ever had eyes for Percy.

Julie, from Halifax, West Yorkshire, said: "We noticed that Mabel and Percy were getting on well, and we could see that Percy was quite fond of her, trying to climb on her.

"We carried it on from there. We take them out for walks and people always comment how nice they look together.

“When I look at them, I know they’re in love. They love being around each other. They’re madly in love and there’s a definite connection. There are other pugs who have had their eye on my Mabel, but she’s only got eyes for Percy.”

The loved-up pugs announced their engagement as part of The Pug Dog Welfare and Rescue Association (PDWRA) Valentine's activity week.

PDWRA looks after hundreds of pugs across the country and helps to find new owners for pugs in need of a loving home. If you want to help the charity, you can donate here.
