Here at TeamDogs, we hate to think of any dog as being unwanted. We’d have them all if we could. So when we heard that Jack Russell Doris has been looking for a home for more than a year, it really tugged at our hearts.
Currently residing at RSPCA Blackberry Farm Animal Centre in Buckinghamshire, 10-year-old Doris is looking for new owners to dote on her after her previous owner sadly died.
The RSPCA is now appealing for potential adopters to consider Doris as their new pet. Could that be you? Could you give Doris the special home she’s been waiting for?
Although adorable, Doris is quite a nervous dog who needs time to trust. This means any prospective adopters would need to spend lots of time with her before taking her home, something that’s been a struggle during previous lockdowns.
This has meant that she’s been with the RSPCA for over 14 months.
But all that time has meant the team at Blackberry Farm Animal Centre have been able to work with Doris and prepare her for finding a home. A behaviourist team has helped her to grow in confidence.
Despite her challenges, the RSPCA says she is full of character. And although an older girl, she still loves to go on long walks.
Paula Flitney, from RSPCA Blackberry Farm, said: “Once she gets to know you Doris is a friendly girl who is happy to see you.
“Now she is greeting people and is happy to engage on her own terms. Once you know her, her communication that she is uncomfortable is quite clear so she needs owners who will be aware of this and give her a lot of time and space to settle in without putting any pressure on her whilst she is getting to know and trust them.
“Her new owners must be patient and understand a dog’s body language. Once they’ve mastered this, Doris will make an absolutely fantastic companion.”
Doris is looking for an adult-only home, one that doesn’t get a lot of visitors. She will also need experienced owners willing to continue with her training.
