An obese golden retriever who weighed almost 200lbs is now half the dog he was after being saved by his new foster mum.
Kai’s former owners told the vet to put him to sleep due to his weight, but the vet refused and placed the golden boy in a rescue centre.
Since then Kai has lost more than 100lbs, the Daily Star reports.

Tipping the scales at 173lbs when he came into the vet’s care, Kai was so huge he struggled to stand up.
But after the vets decided to give Kai a second chance at life, he was adopted by a wonderful lady who transformed his life.
The Misfits of Alberta Animal Rescue took Kai in and pleased him with a foster mum called Pam Heggie.
Understandably Pam fell so in love with Kai that she ended up adopting him.
Kai has now shed a staggering 105lbs and is now less than half the dog he used to be thanks to a lifestyle overhaul.
The gorgeous golden can now run after his ball, jumps over logs in the woods and loves going to the park for his walkies - a far cry from the dog who could barely stand on his own four legs.
“He was a rescue surrendered to Misfits of Alberta Animal Rescue," his new mom told Bored Panda.
What a good boy!
"He was taken in to be put down by his previous owners due to obesity.
"He was 173lbs when he was taken in, and his mobility was very limited. He now weighs 68lbs and is healthy and active. I fostered him then ended up keeping him.”
Golden retrievers usually weigh from 55 to 75 pounds and will wolf down whatever food their owners give them.
Not only has he achieved a tremendous weight loss, Kai has also become a certified therapy dog and jumped right in by doing hospital visits.

He is also a major inspiration to his new foster brother, Woody, who is also a chonky boy.
Woody’s weight last month came in at an eye-watering 209lbs but now he is hoping to follow in Kai's footsteps on his own weight loss journey.
The duo are now social media sensationds and have 23,800 followers on Facebook.
In one post, the page says: "Hello my name is Kai! I was dropped off at a vet clinic and asked by my previous owners to be put down because I was 173 pounds and couldn’t move well. @misfitsofalberta.animalrescue found me a foster mom (who became my forever mom) who helped me drop 100 pounds. I hope my journey inspires you to never give up!"
Kai's even gets recognised when he's out and about in his home town in Edmonton, Canada, thanks to his newfound fame.
“Probably once or twice a week somebody says, ‘Oh, is this Kai?' Or 'I’ve seen him online but I’ve never got to meet him',” Pam told Global News. “He’s a pretty popular guy.”
“He is truly the happiest dog in the world,” said Pam.
“I haven’t lost an ounce, but he’s done remarkably well. He is a totally different dog now.”
“That in itself is a miracle,” said Dr. Jared Lawrence, Kai’s veterinarian. “I think in general Kai’s prognosis is really good.”
