Demand for dog-friendly holidays more than doubling in 2021

This year could be a great one for dogs who want to see some sights, with pet-friendly holidays in greater demand than ever this year. 

The travel restrictions still in place because of Covid have left many of us unable to holiday abroad - not that our furry friends will be complaining!

Recent research from Barclays suggested that as many as 23 million Brits could be planning at least one staycation in the UK this year instead of heading abroad, with more than half of the country expecting to go on a family holiday this summer.

With staycations in this country back on the cards, this has potential knock-on effects for those families that have dogs, with many people having to make the choice about whether to take or leave their pets. 

However, it seems like more people than ever are looking to give their doggos some time away with them.

Barclays is estimating that as many as 5.8 million dog owners are planning to take their fur babies on their family vacation - because as we know, for so many of us the dog is a big part of the family!

However, bringing pets with you on your hols requires a bit of extra planning, but it seems as though people are searching out pet-friendly places to holiday more than ever. 

Booking.com has said that the demand for dog-friendly rental properties and holiday accommodation has more than doubled since travel restrictions came into place, with more and more people looking to plan a holiday with their four-legged friends. 

A spokesperson said: “At Booking.com, our accommodation partners have full control of the rates, availability, inventory and rules that they choose to list on our platform and they are able to update and change these at their own will.

“However, as part of our commitment to doing everything we can to support our property partners through this time, we have focussed our efforts on bringing them the tools and tailored insights they need to effectively respond to the evolving travel environment. 

“We’re continually innovating to make it easy for customers to find what they’re looking for and making it easy for our partners to easily adjust their policies to ensure their property benefits. We have also developed a Cleanliness Advisory Toolkit to help partners navigate health and safety regulations and traveller preferences.

“Interestingly, we have seen an increased appetite for pet-friendly stays, with the use of Booking.com’s ‘pet-friendly’ filter more than doubling since the start of travel restrictions.”
