12 dogs in Birmingham who need love on International Dogs Day

These West Midlands based dogs are all hoping to find a new home soon

It’s International Dog Day and what better way to celebrate it than showing off some dogs who deserve some extra love. 

These 12 pooches in the West Midlands are all looking for a new family to share the rest of their lives with and shower with love.

So if you don’t have a doggo to celebrate this wonderful occasion with then today could be the day that all changes.

Birmingham Dogs Home is currently looking after all of these gorgeous dogs and many more. 

The shelter is also trying to raise £100,000 to fund new equipment for a veterinary clinic being built in Solihull.


Dane


Breed: Crossbreed

Size: Large

Gender: Male (N)

Centre: Birmingham Centre

Age: Three years and two months

Live with Dogs: Possibly

Dane came to Birmingham Dogs Home as a very nervous boy but his confidence is growing. A home with people who have experience with nervous and reactive dogs would be most suitable for him. He may be able to possibly live with a laidback female dog who enjoys playing. Crash

Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier (cross)

Size: Medium

Gender: Male (N)

Crash suffers from separation anxiety so a home where his new family will be in most of the day would be perfect for him. 

This lovely boy also suffers from skin conditions which can be managed with the right food and treats.Crash will need treatment if he has any flare-ups.

Crash walks well on a lead however, he needs further obedience training. A home with Bull breed experience would be best for him.

Razor

After living outdoors, this loveable big boy doesn't have much experience inside a house.

Razor has been working on this and he will need to be supervised. Treats and toys are a great distraction if he gets hold of something he shouldn't.

After having a double TECA surgery, which is the removal of the ear canal, Razor is now deaf but he does respond to treats.

Sapphire

Breed: Husky (cross)

Size: Medium

Gender: Female

Age: Five years and one month

Sapphire can be nervous when she meets new people so her adopters  will need to meet her several times before she goes home with them.

She needs someone who has experience with nervous dogs and will need her confidence building around meeting dogs.

This lovely girl has been muzzled trained for meeting new people. 

Sapphire will need to wear her muzzle while out in public - as she has previously snapped at strangers in the past.

Holly

This energetic girly has a lot of love to give. She’s strong on the lead and will need a confident handler. 

Holly is very reactive to other dogs. She has been muzzle trained but doesn’t mind wearing it when out and about. She also loves to play with her toys.

Smiley Miley is a vocal but friendly gir. She loves running around and playing with toys.

Miley is selective with other dogs so a pet free home where she can have all the love and attention she deserves would be perfect for her.

Ronnie

Breed: American Bulldog

Size: Large

Gender: Male (N)

Age: One year and two months

Ronnie is an excitable boy and will need a home with experience in big boisterous dogs. He is also deaf, so anyone who has experience with deaf dogs would be at an advantage.

He does need to learn some manners because he is so friendly. Ronnie will jump up on you and can mouth and grab hold of hands and clothing. 

This behaviour will need to be discouraged when he is in his new home.


Ronnie would like a pet-free home where he can have all the love and attention he deserves. 

He loves to play with toys which is perfect for bonding with him, however, watch your fingers as he can get overexcited.

Polly

Despite her age this loving girl is still active. Her new family will need to have experience with dogs who have behavioural issues.

Polly is food possessive when it comes to dog meat, but she is a clever girl who will work for treats and does beg, which is adorable. 

She is vocal and will tell you if she’s not happy . 

Polly has to wear a muzzle when going to the vets to be checked over. Once has bonded with you she is very affectionate.

Gemma

Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Gemma loves to be fussed and play fetch. She can be a little nervous when she meets new people but gains confidence around new people quickly if she is introduced correctly. 

This gorgeous girl can sit and give paw, but may need more training. She  drops her toys using the commands 'leave' or 'drop' but only if you have another trade with.

Her favourite toys are tennis balls.

Gemma can pull on the lead if she sees something but generally she walks well. 

An adult only home, with owners who have experience with shepherd's and are willing to work with her to build a bond would be perfect for Gemma.

Roxy

This loving girl loves a cuddle and her toys. An experienced home with Bull breeds would be best for Roxy as she is boisterous.

She needs work on her recall, jumping up and basic training. Roxy will sometimes go to mouth you, so needs to be distracted. 

She loves treats, so this should help with training.

Moose

Moose loves to spend time with his bonded people and is very affectionate enjoying relaxing time with his human friends once he is confident around them.

He needs to continue training in various areas and has shown food aggression. This means he can't live with children or other dogs.

His adopters will need to be able to physically control him due to his size. He can get over excited when greeting people.

Hachi loves to be around calm dogs. His age doesn’t hold him back as he enjoys going on adventures.

This gorgeous boy has a gentle and easy going character. He would be able to live with older sensible children who will respect him and his space when needed.

Due to his breed he will need a lot of grooming.
